At St. Peter’s we value the students’ physical education as well as their academic and spiritual instruction. Students meet for P.E. twice per week.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students focus on developing coordination and fine motor skills as well as learning how to follow rules of simple games and working as a team. Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade take part in fitness activities, games, and conditioning activities. Middle school students focus more on sport units and conditioning activities that will develop them to be healthy, fit individuals with a deeper understanding of lifelong sports. Sport units covered throughout the year include soccer, flag football, softball, volleyball, basketball, and floor hockey. Other activities include capture the flag, ultimate Frisbee/football, dance, and Zumba. The middle school students routinely take part in running activities including the half-mile run, 10 minute run, and mile runs. The students also test twice per semester on sit-ups and pushups. Middle school students are given a grade for physical education based on participation, changing for class, and displaying good sportsmanship. In the early spring, students in kindergarten through 4th grade also take part in the Jump Rope for Heart program while students in grades 5-8 participate in Hoops for Heart.

The physical education program at St. Peter’s promotes cooperation, leadership, fair play, and friendly competition. Our goal is to encourage each student to find activities that he or she really enjoys so they stay active outside of school and utilize the gifts God has given them.
